UK Provisional Driving Licence
Applying for a provisional licence
If you want to get behind a wheel of a car the first step is to apply for your provisional driving licence. Although you cannot start your driving lessons until you turn 17, you are able to apply for your provisional licence three months in advance of your 17th birthday. To apply for your provisional licence, you need to complete a D1 Form from any Post Office and send it to the DVLA with your Passport or Birth Certificate – make sure you include a passport size photo of yourself.
Or you can also apply for a provisional licence on the DirectGov website. Please follow the link below.
The quickest route is online.
You’ll receive your licence in the post within 14 days, and the application takes just a few minutes. Alternatively, you can apply the old-fashioned way through the post.
